About Scrabble Kenya

Scrabble Kenya was founded in 1990 under the brand name KASA and its now been 20 years in competitive scrabble. The world championships were started in 1991 with the championship being held every two years, the 1st was in UK, the second in USA, the third in UK the fourth in USA and the fifth in last year was in Malaysia.
As a country, Kenya has had very good rankings in the world championship. In 1995 Kenya was ranked No. 1 in the world. There are 12 or more national competitions in our yearly calendar being held in various cities in the counties such as Nairobi, Machakos, Nakuru, Murang’a, Busia and Eldoret.
Regional championships for Africa are held every year and the worst Kenya has ever been ranked is No. 2, in the East and Central African championship Kenya has always been ranked No. 1 (In this year’s E.A. Championship positions 1-7 were taken up by Kenyans.
We appealing to have this game brought to schools though its already in colleges and Universities such as Kenyatta University which is under training with one of our regional champions David Kangethe. Recently there were regional Inter-varsities at Kenyatta University and the hosts (KU) took the gold.
Scrabble is part recreation and part an extension of education with a build up of English vocabulary.

    1. Hi Rebecca, Thanks for the interest. Actually if you are in Nairobi then it is easier to join one of several active clubs. The Visa Club on Mara Road in Upper Hill is probably the toughest club but you must not be intimidated...you will find a newbie (new word meaning someone new to the game) to practice...but even expert level players are always happy to teach a newbie so you will not be left alone.
You may contact the following officials for a guided introduction so that your welcome carries some officialness to it. Unfortunately, today most players are traveling to Butere in Western Kenya for a major national tournament that starts tomorrow.

      Millie Kikechi: 0718303583
      Cecilia Ruto: 0720897894
      Gitonga Nderitu: 0722377288

These are officials but am sure they will guide you adequately.

      Karibu Scrabble Kenya!
